Community Center & Riverside Elementary Project
The Community Center, a joint project by the Village of Menomonee Falls and the School District of Menomonee Falls, opened its doors in 1996 to provide citizens and guests of the Menomonee Falls community a much-needed community center and has become a critical community asset and social hub of Menomonee Falls. The facility was built as an addition to Riverside Elementary School, which was built in 1959. The two buildings are physically connected through a hallway and shared spaces, including a gymnasium.
Expanding the Community Center will address capacity issues and the growing demand for community programming and space. Adding a gymnasium is part of the proposed project, which will increase community accessibility, reduce scheduling conflicts, and increase safety for Riverside and Quest students. The existing center is a two-story building, which presents accessibility challenges for the large and growing senior population using the lower-level group exercise and dance studio. CE& Rec programming will be on one floor in the proposed expansion.
Additional benefits of the expansion include:
- Additional daytime programs and special events, without displacing Physical Education classes
- Overall growth of current programs and addition of new programs (pickleball, special events, larger fitness programs, preschool movement and gym classes, etc.)
- Enhances safety by reducing potential for the general community to have contact with students during passing periods
- Ease of access→ now one level
- Increase safety for Riverside and Quest students
- Reduce scheduling conflicts
- Ensure everyone has access to facilities
- Additional gym space within the schools by shifting programs to the new Community Center gym
- Designated indoor walking times
- Accessible office area for one of our recreation supervisors
