AVID
MFHS offers the AVID elective course to students in 9th -12th grade. Students who are selected and recruited for participation in the AVID elective class have aspirations to attend college and possess the individual determination to work hard to achieve their goals.
The AVID elective provides students with academic tools, access to resources, and structure to thrive in rigorous coursework, ensuring success in any post -secondary endeavor. Students accepted into the AVID elective develop skills related to the acronym WICOR: Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading. Avid also helps students refine their communication, studying, time management, reading comprehension, test-taking, and personal development. The philosophy of the program encourages strong student teacher relationships, student led tutorials, and mutual support among classmates.
