We want to assure safety for all teachers, students and parents so we have created the following procedures that we ask everyone to follow.
- Masks must be worn at all times on school grounds.
- Only the student and one parent should attend. (If this is not an option for your family or if you are uncomfortable attending the face to face conference, we can complete the conference virtually at the selected time.)
- Teachers will be cleaning all tables between conferences.
We will have enough conferences available during these assigned days for all students. They will be scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis. We do ask for all families to do their best to attend one. If you would prefer a virtual conference, we can accommodate that at your selected time. Please indicate this in the comments section.
Conferences for students who will attend school in person, are on August 27th and 28th for 30 minutes. Parents will meet the teacher for a brief introduction, and then will wait in the hallway for the conference to be over.
Click on the link below to sign up for a time slot with your teacher.
Conferences for students who are starting the year in the fully virtual option, are on August 27th and 28th and September 1st and 2nd for 45 minutes. The purpose of these conferences is for the teacher to meet with each individual student in order to distribute Chromebooks for full virtual students, to begin to get to know each other, to share some introductory technology information, and to gather initial information about the student’s reading skills if time allows. We cherish this opportunity because of the individual connection between the child and teacher and ability to help reduce any anxieties your child may have.
We ask that the parent remains in the room to learn a little about the technology platforms that will be used. If time remains, parents will be asked to leave the room and sit in the hallway so that the teacher can complete a reading assessment with the child.

Lunch will be available to students daily following a similar schedule as in the past. Students will sit with their peers from their classrooms. Classrooms will be divided into numerous spaces (cafeteria and gym or another space) when all students are present in order to provide space between classrooms groups.

How does drop-off and pick-up work at Riverside? What if I have a student at both Riverside and Ben Franklin?
The drop-off and pickup times at Riverside are busy times and safety is our number one priority. Please watch this brief video outlining our procedures.
If you have students at both Riverside and Ben Franklin, we suggest that you pickup at Ben Franklin first and then come to Riverside. Please be patient the first few weeks of school as families and students get used to the routine. All students are typically picked up and buses were loaded and on their way home typically within 15 minutes of dismissal.
We require that all students be picked up by 4:00 pm. (2:45 on Wednesdays) We understand that sometimes parents might be late, so just give us a call. However if the student is being picked up late more than just a few times, we will ask that you enroll them into an after school program.
Who do I contact if my child will be absent?
If the absence is scheduled in advance, please send a note with your child with the child's full name, teacher name, date and reason for the absence. If your child is ill or going to be late to school, please leave an absence voicemail before 9:00 am by calling 262-255-8484.
What is the difference between being tardy or leaving early vs being marked absent?
Students who arrive more than 30 minutes late, or leave more than 30 minutes early will be marked with a 1/2 day absence. If they arrive or leave within that 30 minute window, they will be marked Tardy or Left Early.
If a student leaves in the middle of the day for an appointment and then returns, they will be marked with a 1/2 day absence if they are gone longer than 30 minutes..
How do I let the school know that my child will be late, will be leaving early or there is change to their end of day routine?
Please send a note with your child with the date, child full name, teacher name and the pick up details. If there is a change that needs to be made during the day, please call school at 262-255-8484 before 3 p.m. if at all possible. Last minute requests can be disruptive to the classroom and should be avoided if possible. To minimize the loss of learning time for students and congestion in the office, we will call students to the office AFTER you arrive at the school to sign them out. Please plan accordingly and allow at least five minutes for students to arrive to the office after you arrive.
Is there after or before school care at Riverside?
Students may be dropped off at school no earlier than 8:30 a.m. and must be picked up by 4:00 pm. If students need before or after school care, the CE&Rec department runs the Kids Inc program. For more information and to sign up, please visit the CE&Rec website.
Many of the local area day cares also provide shuttle service for students to Riverside.
When will the school office be open? What if I have other questions related to Back to School?
The Riverside office will reopen to normal business hours on August 19th. If you have questions in the meantime, please email email@example.com. You can also contact the district office at 262-255-8440.
